The split leather, unlike the full grain leather is the part of the skin the closest to the fat and flesh of the animal and not the upper part of the epidermis.

The split leather is considered to be slightly less flexible than the full grain leather, a little less resistant but don't worry it will never tear. The split leather is more difficult to patina which is of no importance for a lining. The outer part of the belt of this model is obviously full grain leather. The use of split leather in the lining simply allows for entry-level models that are less expensive.
